A hackathon is when a group of developers get together and "hack" of some problem. Biology is becoming more and more accessible and we want to help support an opensource developer community. This event will be focused on hardware/software solutions for making the lives of biologists easier.
Open Cell is a 70 shipping container campus in Shepherd’s Bush London, offering affordable biolabs to early stage startups and designers. We don't believe in long winded business plans. We want our residents to build things people want.By hosting expensive infrastructure we are able to offer a low cost environment for biotech prototyping.
Our community of like minded innovators can help you prototype inventions faster. And as our name suggests, Open-Source is at the heart of what we do and build.
Each month we will tackle a different challenge.
26th of October: Plate-Reader (Follow the live feed here)
30th of November: Augmented Biologist (sign up now)
26th of January: Wuhan 🧬 Virus 🦠
February Hack: A new bench(mark)
March Hack: Consumer DNA storage
Biologists, technologists and designers that have interest in contributing with their skills to the project. The hackathons are not learning/teaching courses and require programming, hardware and/or biology skills. We accept max. 10 applicants per hackathon.
Write us an email to info@opencell.bio with the subject line: Biohackathon
Give us a short overview of your background, skills and interest and why you would like to take part.
Lab Vision: This code takes a picture using webcam(s) and segments it into RGB using a python script. The images are then placed on a webstream.
Hand-Tracking: With TensorFlow Lite on GPU.
Real-time Hand-Detection using Neural Networks
Plate-Reader: Open-Source Platereader by Chow Lab at the University of Pennsylvania
Bixels: STEAM education kit for cell-free & fluorescent proteins.
Low-Cost RPI Timelapse: How to make a cheap timelapse and webstream!
OpenTrons: Open-source liquid handling robot
