We are excited to welcome Raph Kim for a workshop and Open Thursday to get hands-on experience on Biotic Games.

Introduction to MouldCraft and Biotic Games

In this hands-on afternoon workshop, you are introduced to MouldCraft: a game about designing and building alternative worlds. After laying 3D foundational blocks for micro-organisms to grow, players create microbial landscapes and objects, by seeding, growing, destroying, and modifying the cells, with a help of a remotely-controlled robotic arm.

This will be followed by an evening talk with an open discussion and Q&A on Biotic Games: a form of alternative hybrid game that integrates living materials into digital platforms.

28th of March - Open Thursday
Biotic Game Evening

In this open evening, we showcase examples and discuss issues around Biotic Games, an alternative hybrid game that integrates living materials into digital platforms.

The evening kicks off with presentations by players of MouldCraft, a game that allows playful interactions with micro-organisms, and fabrication of 3D microbial forms to be made.

This will be followed by a showcase of more biotic games, with invited guests presenting their creations.

And finally, we end the evening with wider and open discussions on the ethical implications of biotic games: What are the potential ethical challenges arising from creating playful interactive systems with living entities?
